Based on today's exercise I found that if your not careful many research questions can become too broad or too vague. Many of my research questions were too broad. This lesson really helped me understand how to write a research question.
One of my research questions was, What are some contributing factors associated with anorexia? Some things i could change about this question are to be more specific about what topic I am researching. My new research question is, How does the media influence women struggling with anorexia?
While Anorexia is a broad topic our group has narrowed this topic down to health problems, media influence, psychological issues, and economic status. We feel these four issues will make great research topics.
Changing your research topic was a good idea. Your final research topic you came up with is really good. Its not to vague and i believe you can get good information and a lot of it at that. Anorexia is a major concern with women in this country and the media probably has a lot to do with it. Im glad you chose this topic and im excited to learn more about it when you present it to the class!! Good Luck!
ReplyDeleteI really liked your refined version of your research question. Although the first one was good, I agree that it was too broad. I also like the topic that you are doing your research on. Anorexia has huge effects on women's self-image and self-worth. I think that the four factors you narrowed down your topic to are the most important, especially media influence and economic status. Great job and I hope your research goes well!
ReplyDeleteMedia influence on women struggling with anorexia is a good research question! That has been a pretty popular topic, so you may find yourself having to narrow even further - specifically popular magazines or tv advertising instead of media in general, for example. But you can decide that once you start finding some sources and see whether you are overloaded with information... This is a great place to start!
