Facebookistan
This video is about the rapid growing social networking site, Facebook. Facebook allows people to meet new people, catch up with people from their past, and connect with friends. Facebook can be a great tool, but is it the safest. This video shows us how easy it is to access other peoples information. Facebook has become a not so private social networking website. Facebook requires a lot of personal information. They ask your full name, hometown, school, and workplace. This makes it easy for predators to find people. The segment where they talked to the girl who's rapist contacted her through Facebook was horrifying. It crazy to think she could actually have a conversation with him after what he did, she even felt closure. There are many other social networking sites that work in the same way, such as MySpace. There is also Twitter, which doesn't require a lot of personal information. I have also recently noticed the ads on the side of my homepage and all of the ads are pertaining to something I would like. This is where the filter bubbles come in. Facebook is starting to act like a robot, it can see when you are on or offline and see what your searching. Your privacy is gone. Facebookistan is a country that they made up that controls everything that happens. These segments all have one thing in common. It's that they show how easy it is to find people and they show how your privacy has been taken away.

In-Class Blog 11
I thought that the library ethnography assignment was very helpful. This is my second year at West Georgia and I did not know how to find or check out a library book. I also never really thought about using library books as sources. I have always just used online sources. I definitely think you should continue to assign this assignment. It wasn't a difficult assignment, but I felt like I got a lot out of it. I wish we could have spent more time on annotated bibliographies. Since it was worth 100 points I wish we could have spent more time discussing what the format should be and what all we needed to include. I have definitely used things we have learned in class in other classes. The main thing i have used is citing. I have used the worksheets we did to cite other books and articles for other classes. I have also used the things you told us about annotated bibliographies in my online class. We are also doing research papers, so I have used a lot of things I have learned in class on my research paper. I will definitely keep all of the worksheets we have done to use for other classes. I also plan to use the common rhetorical devices sheet to help analyze sources.

In class blog 10
For as book i would most likely find information on a specific subject. A book would definitely be a good source for a research paper. A book is definitely reliable. A book is helpful for my research paper because there are many books published about anorexia and the different treatment plans.
For a blog post i would probably find personal information about a specific journal, because a lot of people use a blog as a journal. This would not be a good source for a research paper, unless the research paper was about social media or something to that effect. I could use this for my research paper if i found a blog that a girl wrote about her recovery and treatment while battling anorexia.
For a scholarly journal article i would most likely find credible and peer-reviewed information, such as a medical journal. This is a great source for a research paper because of the vast majority of journal articles out there. It is really easy to find one that can relate to your topic and is also credible. I could use this for my research question if i found a medical journal about the different treatment plans of anorexia, which i have already done.
For Wikipedia i would most likely find information similar to an encyclopedia. This is not a good source for a research paper simply because it is not reliable. Anyone is able to change or alter the information to something that is completely false. I would not use this as a source for my research paper, but i could use it to get some basis and background information for my topic. this could be a good starting point.
For a podcast i would most likely find videos or audio of a specific subject. This is not a good resource for a research paper unless the person is credible and is an expert on the subject they are discussing. I would not use this for my research paper unless it was a young women discussing her treatment plans and how it worked for her recovery.

In class activity 10/29
To find the the full text of the provided article I first went to the University website. I then clicked on the Library link that took me to the university library website. I then clicked on Galileo and Databases and searched Medical Students' Use of Facebook. That then took me to the results page where the article was number one.
Homework 10/29
After watching the video I have come to realize that annotated bibliographies are much like a works cited page. Annotated bibliographies consist of a summary citation and annotations. This can be a list of books, journals, databases, and pictures. They all must be cited correctly. The summary includes a brief statement about the source used and how it relates to the topic. . The citation should be formatted properly to exclude plagiarism. Annotations include a note made when reading a source. An annotated bibliography not only gives the writer some insight on his/her topic and sources, but also gives the reader some insight on your topic before reading your paper. An annotated bibliography must be written in APA or MLA format. I feel the reason we are required to do an annotated bibliography is not only for our research paper, but to get some practice for future classes that may require one for a research paper. Annotated bibliographies are a great tool to determine if our source is beneficial to our research paper or not.

In Class Blog Post October 24
Theses topics have to do with library research because most of these topics involve books, databases, and journals, which are all found in the library, and library research is done in the library. They also involve citations. These topics discuss what constitutes plagiarism, copyright violation, and paraphrasing. I will be able to apply the things i have learned in other classes when writing papers and doing research for a research paper or presentation. I have learned and practiced how to properly cite all kinds of sources, such as journals, databases, books, and even images. I feel i have learned many things that i had no clue was either plagiarism or a copyright violation. This is important because there are many people that would not knowingly plagiarize, but they are not educated adequately on this subject, therefore can not determine what is plagiarism and what is not. They may not know how to properly cite internally or externally. One thing i feel i still have a few questions about is copyright violation and at what point are you using too much information. I know that if a person uses a whole song that is copyright violation, but how much is too much?

Homework 10/22
Trouble for Elsevier was about workers who were mistreated and were not being paid for their work. The workers eventually boycotted, because they wanted free for taxpayers. The New England Journal is a medical journal with a lot of medical knowledge that is free to taxpayers and they are able to access this at anytime free of charge. The Changing Nature of Knowledge talks about how when it came to knowledge things used to be censored. To me they were thinking about ways to disclose information, because there are so many resources out there besides reading things in books. This is mainly due to the rise in technology. These stories all talk about displaying items to the public. In Elsevier's case it was negative, but they wanted the public to view his work freely. In the New England Journal it was positive because the information was already visible to the public, which is a great thing. The Changing Nature of Knowledge is positive because i feel people are changing their ways of thinking about technology, which today we could not function without. These stories affect me because i am constantly looking up things and if the information was limited i would not be able to do proper research. The Change Knowledge of Nature really affects me because is discusses technology, which i am a big fan of. I feel technology is a great thing because we are able to do so much today they we haven't been able to do in the past.
